This presentation seeks to help all web developers on campus understand why they should keep accessibility in mind when creating their applications.

The panel discussion, moderated by Berkeley CIO Shel Waggener, features IST–Web Applications Manager Bill Allison and College of Letters & Science Director of Computing Tom Holub, two campus IT leaders who have been tireless accessibility advocates. The panel also features Jon Mires, an accessibility expert with the Center for Accessible Technology, a local non-profit organization that, among other things, provides consulting services to corporations, libraries, and government entities on creating accessible websites.

The panel members each talk about their experience creating accessible web content and the subsequent results.

Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) has transformed the way both individuals and businesses interact online. These latest technologies have changed web audio conferences dramatically.

Originally, conferencing only allowed a strict number of people in different locations to connect at the same time using conventional telephones. While this was useful in certain situations, participants were limited to voice communication alone. And, with unlimited long distance yet to be marketed, long distance charges added up.

However, modern internet software has brought conferencing into a whole new level. If you and the people you wish to conference with all have reasonably up to date computers with microphones and speakers, you can set up a conference call absolutely free.

There are many applications that will allow you to engage in a web conference. However, the most popular VoIP software available is Skype. Download this from www. skype. com and register an account for free and you will be able to call other Skype users, no matter what their location, for no cost.

Skype has a conferencing feature that allows up to nine users participate at any one time. In fact, people can join the conference using traditional telephones as well, and if your internet connection is fast, enough you can video conference.
